That Could Have Been A Lot Worse

But it should have been a lot better. I'm even more angry at the Bulls inability to cover now that my record is updated (look to your right) and I can see clearly just how miserable the NBA has been for me. Still, I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, which, according to Albert Einstein, means that the NBA has clearly driven me insane.

Regardless, logic says that the oddsmakers have to overcompensate for this ridiculous string of favorites covering at some point. It's not like action on these games is split 50-50, so the books have to be getting killed on the NBA this year. And, as anyone who's ever placed a bet in Vegas can tell you, the house losing doesn't usually last for very long.

Surveying Thursday's wreckage:

Tuesday Wrap-Up

You may have noticed that I didn't actually post any picks today. That didn't stop me from losing money though.

Record: 5-7
Day: -1.44%
YTD: -6.92%

Trust me, that really is how I did today. If I was going to make something up, I'd probably pretend that I was...oh, I don't know...winning. Also, for the record, a meeting between 3:30 and 5:30 today prevented me from getting in picks that would have gone 2-1: Oakland, Houston, and Seattle in the 2nd game of yesterday's doubleheader.

Anyways, tomorrow should be slightly less busy than today so I should (finally) be able to post some picks on this thing.

LMQ Is Back!

After the nightmare that was last week, I'm back with a new computer and ready to lose some more cash. First, here's a quick wrap of the last two days that I made picks. Obviously, I didn't post what the picks were, so you (again, term used loosely) will just have to trust me here.

Tuesday, April 21:
Record: 8-8
Day: +1.62%
YTD: -8.26%

Monday, April 27:
Record: 5-3
Day: +2.95%
YTD: -5.56%

Not quite sure how that happened. Maybe having a computer will allow me to find losers more easily.

April 22, 2009

No Picks Today

And most likely nothing for the next few days either. Awesomely, my laptop was stolen last night. Fortunately, everything was backed up in "the cloud" so I'm not losing anything valuable, just my sanity. But I'm spending so much of my time cancelling credit cards and changing passwords that I don't have time to really think about these picks. If I'm really going to lose money quick, it's going to be on my own terms, dammit. I hope you all (and looking at this site's traffic, I use that term loosely) understand.

The First Weekly Wrap-Up

Sunday Record: 9-11
Week Record: 39-61-2
Day: -0.47%
Week: -9.62%

I know it's not great for a new blog to go on the blink so soon into its existence, but I'm going to be traveling next week and will be posting (and betting) less frequently. Things should be back to normal by Thursday.

Playoffs!?!?!

NBA:
Utah +11.5 +107 (1) @ LA Lakers

10:05 AM Games Only

I'm playing lots of totals today since I think a lot has been made of how scoring is up across baseball this early season. With all the lousy pitchers pitching today along with this trend, I figure betting unders is a great way to lose.

Baseball:
Oakland +122 (1) @ Toronto
Oakland/Toronto Under 9 +117 (1)
Milwaukee/NY Mets Under 10 +104 (1)
Cleveland +228 (1) @ NY Yankees

Be back momentarily with the rest of the games.

Saturday Recap

Record: 3-7
Day: -2.07%
YTD: -10.86%

I'm obviously getting really good at this losing money thing.

What I Learned Today

A good way to lose money is to bet on a team managed by Bruce Bochy. It's like the man actively tries to make the worst possible decision in any given situation.

Real Live Baseball

Going to see Tim Lincecum pitch and the Giants' offense "hit" at Phone Company Park today so I have to get everything for the day in now. The park has wifi, but if you bring a laptop to the game you deserve a fastball to your hard drive.

In case you're wondering, I do not regret missing the thrilling first games of the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Baseball:
Colorado +160 (1) @ LA Dodgers
Detroit +141 (1) @ Seattle (Don't like this one as much as I did earlier, bought out of it with Seattle -138)
Cleveland +120 (1) @ NY Yankees
Arizona/San Francisco Under 8 -117 (1)
Baltimore/Boston Under 9.5 +102 (1) (Note: Apparently, I was only able to get 0.2 of this picked up.)
Cleveland/NY Yankees Under 10.5 -107 (1)
Colorado/LA Dodgers Under 8 +115 (1) (Note: This didn't get picked up at Matchbook for me, lucky.)
LA Angels/Minnesota Under 9 +101 (1)
San Diego/Philadelphia Under 9.5 -106 (1)

Hockey:
Columbus +250 (1) @ Detroit
Montreal +226 (1) @ Boston
NY Rangers +191 (1) @ Washington

I also would have taken the Brewers, Nationals, and Pirates had I woken up in time. Life is tough in the Pacific Time Zone.

Lots of tension tonight with the Nationals losing in extras and leads being blown by the Orioles, Rockies, Tigers, and White Sox. Good to see all my teams coming through for me in the end though.

Thursday Wrap-Up

The unoriginal title is due to me being tired. You would think it wouldn't be all that hard to type a sentence or two twice a day about your gambling investing. You would be right. That's beside the point though. Anyways,

Sad to see the NBA season end tonight. The league has done everything possible to help this site live up to its name.

Hoc-key?

Yes, hockey.

Cincinnati/Milwaukee Under 9 +113 (1)
Toronto/Minnesota Under 8.5 -106 (1)

Whew, that's a lot of losing.

Ace Wednesday

No, I'm not talking about the private investigator (who doesn't exist as far as I know) but instead making a sarcastic "joke" about the quality of today's starters.

Marquis! Ponson! Benson! Hampton! It's a veritable who's who of pitchers who were mediocre five years ago and something worse than that now. The bottom line is that I've finally found some people I can count on to lose a game for me.

Colorado (J. Marquis) +202 (1) @ Chicago Cubs (R. Harden)
Arizona (J. Garland) -112 (1) vs. St. Louis (J. Piniero)
Chicago White Sox (J. Contreras) +150 (1) @ Detroit (A. Galarraga)
Oakland (B. Anderson) +105 (1) vs. Boston (T. Wakefield)
Tampa Bay (A. Sonnanstine) +103 (1) vs. New York Yankees (A. Pettitte)
Colorado/Chicago Under 7 +110 (1)

Baltimore +140 (1) at Texas

Oakland +140 (1) vs. Boston
Cincinnati/Milwaukee Under 9 +105 (1)

Basketball:
Utah +6 -110 (1) at LA Lakers

The Tuesday Morning Game

All these opening days are really interfering with my sleep. Fortunately, baseball's finally back to a more normal schedule with just one day game. I guess no one's willing to go out at night in Detroit.

Chicago White Sox (J. Danks 0-0, 0.00) at Detroit (R. Porcello 0-1, 7.20)

Danks looked really good in his last start against the Royals, allowing just 3 hits in 6 innings. Porcello's pitched 5 total innings in his career. He might be good eventually, but right now he's still adjusting to the majors. In baseball, winning comes with experience. Which is why I'm going with:

Detroit +120 (1) vs. Chicago White Sox RAINED OUT

Afternoon picks coming...in the afternoon.

The Day That Was - Monday 4/13

So far so good. I'll try to lose money even quicker tomorrow.

Record: 5-9
Day: -3.07%
YTD: -4.85%

Since I've been researching new and improved ways to stupidly lose money since long before this site existed, let me explain quickly what these numbers mean for me. "Record" should be self-explanatory. "Day" is my percentage gain or loss since the beginning of the day. Even though each unit is approximately equal to 1% of my beginning bankroll, this number won't always look correct if you do the math based on my picks. The reason: I've been so good at LMQ that my current bankroll is actually less than what I started with. Because I haven't changed my unit size (I hear it's a painful procedure and doesn't always work), in reality, I'm betting a little more than 1% with each unit.

If you're still with me after that explanation, you're way too smart and should probably leave immediately. You can also probably understand that "YTD" is my gain or loss since I started keeping track of how quickly I can lose money (February 15th, 2009).

Since That Went So Well...

Baseball:
Arizona +103 (1) vs. St. Louis
Oakland +143 (1) vs. Boston
Baltimore +120 (1) at Texas
Cleveland +121 (1) at Kansas City

Milwaukee -4 -110 (1) vs. Orlando
Minnesota +11 -110 (1) at Dallas
LA Clippers +12.5 -105 (1) at Utah
Memphis +8 -105 (1) at Phoenix

Monday Morning Stupidity

Last night really set this blog off on the right foot.
